The Harmonized Commodity Description & Coding System (better known as the Harmonized System or HS) is used by more than 200 countries, which together account for more than 98% of the world's trade, as a basis for their Customs Tariffs and collection of international trade statistics.
It comprises some 5000 groups of goods, each identified by a six-digit code and is provided with the necessary definitions and rules to ensure its uniform application.
What's new in the 2007 edition? The new 4th edition is a major revision of the HS and contains more than 350 amendments to the HS Nomenclature.
